Avengers: Infinity War

Sunday is date day. My husband and I generally take a hike, piddle around the house, then go out for dinner.  Last Sunday we changed it up a bit. I’ve been wanting to see Avengers: Infinity War, and, I wanted to see it on the big screen.

Going to see this film is unusual on five counts. First, we have not been to a movie theater together since seeing the Jim Carrey version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, in November of 2000. Besides the noise, sticky seats and floors, there’s no particular reason. There have been many great films over the years, it just never occurs to us to go see a movie in a theater when it will be coming to TV soon.

Second, I don’t consider myself a Marvel Movie nerd, but for some reason, I wanted to see this film. Maybe, it had something to do with the “Three Chris’,” Chris Hemsworth (aka Thor), Chris Evans (aka Captain America), and Chris Pratt (aka Star-Lord). I will say, I have watched several Marvel films in the comfort of my own home.  Iron Man and Iron Man 2, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and quite possibly a few more. Hmmm, maybe I am a Marvel nerd after all. Who knew.

I loved this film! Avengers: Infinity War, has a blockbuster cast, its share of one-liners, cameo appearances, audience favorites (Captain America and Thor), massive over the top Comic Book action, deception, depth, and surprises.

When the screen went black and the credits began to roll, the audience sat in stunned silence. I’ve don’t believe I’ve ever experienced a theater full of people so shocked and confused at what had just happened. A collective unspoken, “What? Wait. That’s it? But…” filled the auditorium. No one moved.

This brings us to the third unusual regard. My husband and I actually discussed the movie on our way home, throughout the afternoon, and during date night dinner.

Fourth, here I am writing about. That never happens.

Fifth, I have to wait a full year for Avengers 4 to hit theaters. You can bet this Marvel nerd will be there. I didn’t even consider that for Batman, but then he’s not a Marvel character.

  1. Hi Laura, I love reading your blogs, but I’m going to miss them unless you help me figure out how to change the email address they get sent to. I’m closing my Yahoo account, but when I try to change the setting to my new email account, the message indicates I’ll be changing from my old email to my new mail, not from your posts to my new email. Too confusing for an old bird like me. And you inspired me to go see the movie! xoxox, Susan

    • OMG!!! It’s so good to hear from you. You’ve been on my mind. I hope all is well with you and Chris. (another awesome Chris, how will I keep them all straight) Have you tried “following” me again? That might work. In the meantime, I can check with WordPress to see if they have any suggestions.
      Love you and Miss you

  2. Good to know about Avengers: Infinity War. We don’t go to the theater much either, preferring to see them at home. But, there are some movies that NEED a big screen (Harry Potter, Avitar, Star Wars are a few) and it’s worth braving all the things we’ve learned to dislike about movie houses. Thanks for the heads up!

  3. Hi Janis
I hope I didn’t inadvertently cause any spoiler alerts. I tried not to. Infinity War is very well done, there’s so much going on. I don’t often get so excited about a movie.
The nice thing about the theater was the wonderful reclining seats. They didn’t have those years ago.
I hope you enjoy Avengers: Infinity War as much as I did.

  4. Hi, Laura – I love departures from the usual routine – and you’ve definitely hit that on five counts. Not being a Marvel Nerd, I’m not sure that I will rush out to see the film. But your post did make me hungry for popcorn, the big screen and discussion afterwards!

  5. Hi Donna
You may like the next movie I’m looking forward to. “Book Club”, it stars Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton, Mary Steenburgen, and Candice Bergen. Four of my favorites. It comes out this month. I’ll have to see this one on my own. I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to talk my husband into going. Popcorn does sound good.

  6. I feel totally ignorant now, not having seen any Avengers movies, or even know who (what?) Marvel is, or any of the characters you mention… But, I’m glad you had a fantastic time! Mark and I never go to the movies either, except when we have a house sit with free VIP passes to the movie theater. 🙂

  7. Hey Sam
There’s not a dull moment. There are so many things going on. I’m going to have to see it again, but I’ll wait for it to come to TV now.
    Hope you enjoy it too
